AUNTY MAGGI

Aunty Maggi is a sophisticated lady who is comfortable, eloquent and intelligent at age 35. She’s in management & she is a friend to my dad and she seems to earn his respect because he tells mum to bring out the good china whenever she’s around.
They earned the same pay but her car was cooler than my dad’s and her nails better manicured than my mums. I loved going to Aunty Maggi's house, it was a 3bedroom like ours but it was free of clutter and she always had digestive biscuits in her kitchen. ( back in the days)

Aunty Maggi was perfect in my eyes as a child but now I’m above 25 not yet 30, I fear the Aunty Maggi syndrome, I look to myself and I start to wonder where did aunty Magi miss the bus? (Marriage) recently, my male friends call me to ask for advice on their relationships as to if they should get married or not, I encourage them.

Yesterday, a girl friend came over and as she spoke I remembered aunty Maggi, we see everyone’s imperfections except ours, we compromise our standards on everything except in the man we want to spend the rest of our life with (chei, aunty Maggi, ooh ! )Because we have similar qualities like her, we are attractive, eloquent, industrious (doing well on the job), classy the only difference is our age!

I don’t think she started out in the corporate world hoping to marry the job but somehow the relationships must have sucked till she stopped trying.

I also remember uncle jack, at 58 we loved him more than most because he loved us even though we weren’t his kids. He made my dad go to the beach with us and a lot of fun stuff; I can’t help to think how lonely he felt when he got home.

I realized yesterday, I love being a career woman, a chique at that but I don’t want to be aunty Maggi, I want to be Mrs. kuku: hot& young after having kids, the neighbors watch her even when she goes to shop, beautiful, smart, with a hot man to dote on her every need, I won’t become aunty Maggi, I won’t.

What about you? Are you gradually becoming uncle jack or are you already aunty Maggi , it’s not too late to catch the bus, there is always one…in the spirit of valentines ( which passed a few days ago and was fun!! *smiling*), everyone deserves to be loved including you don’t give up just yet, cause I haven’t!!
